The practioner places hands on or near the body consciously directing energy with the intention to help or heal. Founders Dora Kunz and Dolores Krieger developed this technique in the 1970s based on ancient healing practices. They state that the therapist acts as a human support system, supporting the clients immunological system until it is robust enough to take over.
Therapeutic touch is based on several principals, the first being that human beings are open energy systems composed of layers of energy (the energy field) continuously in contact with self, others and the environment.
