Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy is the practice of helping people across the lifespan participate in the things they want and need to do through the therapeutic use of everyday activities (occupations). Common occupational therapy interventions at the Wellness Center of Kalamazoo include improving postural deficits, reducing pain and increasing strength to  help people recovering from injury and chronic pain to regain skills. Occupation therapy is holistic and client centered and focuses on improving every day health and well being.  Occupational therapy services typically include:
  • an individualized evaluation, during which the client/family and occupational therapist determine the person’s goals,
  • customized intervention to improve the person’s ability to perform daily activities and reach the goals, and
  • an outcomes evaluation to ensure that the goals are being met and/or make changes to the intervention plan.
Occupational therapy services are considered rehabilitative, must be medically necessary and require a Physicians referral. Therapy is generally short term until function is restored. Following rehabilitation clients my receive services in our therapeutic body work and wellness programs in order to maintain physical well being.
